Our Mission: help teams move faster, with better data

The pace of innovation for application developers has accelerated dramatically over the past few years. So has the composability of infrastructure and the complexity of product demands. But when it comes to understanding and debugging those systems, most of us are still using tools designed for earlier generations of problems. We can do better—we must do better.

When something goes wrong, we need tools to quickly understand what is broken and why, and to rapidly isolate and fix problems. Honeycomb enables you to debug complex systems and to answer arbitrary, ad hoc questions about those systems in real time.

Honeycomb incorporates time series-based monitoring, log management and aggregation, Application Performance Monitoring (APM), exception tracking, and request tracing, but is greater than the sum of these parts.

Our Team

Honeycomb is built by a small team of engineers, with decades of combined experience spent building some of the internet’s biggest sites. We love opinionated design, just the right amount of cheese, and tools that supercharge your humans and get out of the way.

Ben Hartshorne

Ben Hartshorne

For the last 12 years, Ben has found himself building monitoring, alerting, and observability systems for companies ranging from startuppy (Simply Hired and Parse) to top-10 (Wikimedia and Facebook). Though unlikely to pass on a good scotch, he’ll reach for the bourbon or rye first.

Charity Majors

Charity Majors

Charity has been on call since the age of 17, a terrifying percentage of her life. She has worn many hats as an engineer and manager at companies like Facebook, Parse, and Linden Lab, but always ends up somehow responsible for the databases. She likes free software, free speech and peaty single-malt scotch.

Chris Toshok

Chris Toshok

Chris has been working on apps, dev tools, and vm’s for over 20 years (don’t bring up how old this must make him) at comapnies like Netscape, Xamarin, Sony, and Dropbox. He hanging out with his family, riding his bicycle, and acting the curmudgeon while sipping WhistlePig.

Christine Yen

Christine Yen

Christine is a generalist whose favorite thing is making something from nothing. Before Honeycomb, Christine built out Parse Analytics, co-founded a YC company, and wrote software at other now-defunct startups. She’s drawn towards the problem of extracting signal from noise. She is the chief tea aficionado on the team.

Peter Tuhtan

Peter Tuhtan

School teacher, turned rehab counselor, turned SaaS biz person, Peter has helped build teams and sales processes for the last 7 years. When he isn’t found at his overly organized desk, he’s most likely playing soccer or at a pub pouring his heart out for his beloved Tottenham Hotspur.

Eben Freeman

Eben Freeman

Now largely reformed after stints studying theoretical math and living as an itinerant rock climber, Eben is fascinated by tools that help humans better understand the systems they create. His beverage of choice is coffee.
